Nina Raine’s Tribes is serving up a heaping dose of family drama at off-Broadway’s Barrow Street Theatre, led by acclaimed performances from Russell Harvard and Susan Pourfar. Harvard stars as Billy, a deaf man struggling to find his identity within his opinionated hearing family. Billy finds solace in his girlfriend Sylvia (Pourfar), who is dealing with the gradual loss of her own hearing. Broadway.com resident artist Justin “Squigs” Robertson headed downtown to see the drama unfold between Billy and his argumentative family (currently being played by Mare Winningham, Gayle Rankin, Jeff Still and Will Brill). Check out Squigs’ take on this thrilling new play, then see Tribes off-Broadway!
About the Artist: With a desire to celebrate the magic of live theater and those who create it, and with a deep reverence for such touchstones as the work of Al Hirschfeld and the wall at Sardi’s, Squigs is happy and grateful to be among those carrying on the traditions where theater and caricature meet. He was born and raised in Oregon, lived in Los Angeles for quite a long time and now calls New York City his home. Click to e-mail Squigs. Photo by Matthew Murphy
